It is also an application that knows what it is and what it wants to be. Things 3 allows for a much faster workflow for me thanks to it's keyboard support. Yet you are expected to pay a premium for it. The Omni team have to devote a lot of time and resources to other applications and platforms, which means that none of them are best in class.

Keep in mind that Cultured Code only does Things, and it's basically the same app across MacOS and iOS. Maybe in a few months it will be worth its current price, but by then the price will have increased, and I doubt it will be worth the new price premium over Things 3. Add to that the bugginess from the switch to OF3, the slowness in getting updates/bug fixes, the general lack of direction the product has exhibited, and you have a product that is, in my view, not worth its price. That may equate to power for some, but to me, it's poor design. E.g., it's possible in the Forecast views to set up a view that would have your tasks listed 3 times each. Some of the UI limitations of OF3 lead to maddeningly stupid views of your data. Instead, it just carries years of bugs and bloat and poor design decisions. OF needs to be re-designed form the ground up like Things 3 was.

It's much more along the lines of what you expect from a Mac app, whereas the bloat and over-engineering of OF would feel much more at home on Windows. Not because of its limitations, mind you, but because Cultured Code know application design. Things 3 is limited, but it's much smoother of an experience. OF is powerful, yes, but my main gripe isn't with its complexity, but rather that its complexity is paired with a lack of flexibility. I'm still on Things 3, and have yet to find a reason to make my way back to OF3. I've owned every version of OmniFocus, and only Things version 3. I’d also like some kind of dependancy feature but I guess that wouldn't really work without losing some of the exquisite simplicity. But it’s close to perfect for people who don’t wear too many hats, and it does a better job of holding your hand and keeping you from messing about. I wish they had a parser for the add to things email so you could add start date/deadline/tags/list in the subject line. I’d like it if Things offered self-service sync like OF does, although their sync works better for me generally speaking (I think because of geographical factors). But Things keeps me from doing irrelevant system tweaking.

I think they are both great options and if you’re not prone to fiddling OF is probably more powerful. I love the review feature, and I very much like Forecast, but right now I’m back on the Things side of the fence. I think what keeps me going back to OF now and then is that vague promise of a perfect system. I find what keeps me coming back to Things 3 is ease of use and speed of interface (Accessing task notes is much faster than in OF), and checklists. I am chronic with this switch back-and-forth - it kind of replaces my quarterly review :/.
